YINARUPA NANGALA – Solo show

Posted by Aboriginal Art Directory | 02.05.07

Papunya Tula Artists in association with John Gordon Gallery is proud to present the first solo exhibition by Yinarupa Nangala. Consisting of 17 paintings from 2002 – 2007, the exhibition opens Saturday 5 May and runs to Saturday 26 May 2007. Yinarupa Nangala is the daughter of the late Anatjari Tjampitjinpa, an artist and former shareholder of Papunya Tula Artists. She lives at the Kiwirrkura Community in Western Australia along with her brother Ray James Tjangala, another well respected Papunya Tula Artist. Yinarupa’s paintings have an instinctive sense of space and rhythm, with odd clusters of shape and line conspiring in her works to depict topographic renderings of her birthplace Mukula, which lies in open country south-west of Jupiter Well in Western Australia. The earthly vibrations of Mukula hum across the surface of her paintings, inviting us to stop and listen as her stories unfold before us. For a complimentary copy of the fully illustrated exhibition catalogue please contact John Gordon Gallery.
