Aboriginal art in Australia is one of the few sources of income for the indigenous population that also perpetuates their ancient culture. In an effort to expand the market for Aboriginal art–which has been hard hit in Australia in recent years–the Australian government and a cooperative gallery for Aboriginal artists have brought 87 paintings to India where art is still gaining interest and sales. This radio report from Australia’s ABC goes as far as to suggest that with the rising prices for Indian painters, Aboriginal art offers a lower-cost alternative. Listen.
