This month we are featuring in the gallery works on paper from the coastal communities of Bidyadanga and Peppimenarti.

Bidyadanga Arts
The art centre at Bidydanga has recently been re-established and is thriving under the enthusiastic stewardship of Jacky Cheng, with a number of men and women painting. The community produces not only paintings on canvas and paper but beautifully patterned silks. We are pleased to be showing works on paper, some vibrantly coloured, depicting country and coastal themes. To see the Bidyadanga works on paper click here.

Durrmu Arts
This art centre is situated at Peppimenarti, on the flood plains of Tom Turner Creek in the Northern Territory. The traditional art medium of this community has been weaving, with their work being collected by leading institutions since the 1970’s. Some of the women, who had previously been weavers, commenced painting around 2000. They replicated on linen and paper, the weaving stitches and patterns with which they were familiar.
