Mary Place Gallery
12 Mary Place (off Brown Street) Paddington NSW 2021.
Opening 3rd March concluding 3rd April. Tuesday to Sunday 11am to 5pm
or by appointment.
Palya Art, in association with Didgeri Air Art Tours, presents a chance to see the best of recent artworks from artist owned indigenous art centres in Kimberley, Arnhem Land and the Central Desert, including the communities of Haast's Bluff, Yuendumu, Kintore & Kiwirrkurra, Balgo Hills, Bidyadanga, Fitzroy Crossing, East Kimberley, Tiwi Islands, Maningrida, Ramingining, Elcho Island, Tennant Creek and Utopia.

These artworks have been recently selected by Helen Read, Director of Palya Art and Didgeri Air Art Tours, who will be in attendance to discuss art tours to visit artists on their land, and to share her unique insights gained from over 20 years of working with, and for, people in remote indigenous communities. Helen Read is a pilot who met many of the painters as a nursing sister before returning to her previous world of art.

"What an enormous privilege it has been getting to know people as I worked and lived in the new homeland communities. Aboriginal friends ‘grew me up', explaining familial, totemic and physical connectedness," says Helen Read.

Registered in 1986, Didgeri Air Art Tours flies visitors from Australia and abroad to remote communities to meet the Traditional Owners and creators of artworks now receiving world attention.

Helen's established relationships with artists and communities continues to facilitate a unique and often profound experience for visitors on her tours, and ensures that work of outstanding quality will be evident at this exhibition at Mary Place.

Palya Art, (a Pintupi word for good and a greeting) was established after frequent requests for Helen to select artworks for private and public collections. "The beauty, force and diversity of artwork I have collected for this exhibition is as vibrant and strong as ever." Helen Read.
