Teacher earns grant, heads to Australia

Aboriginal Art Directory | 31.03.09

From Boulder and County News:

Jason Gage, an art teacher at Spangler Elementary in the St. Vrain Valley School District, has been chosen to receive the 2009 Eleanor Venture grant -- created five years ago to support a teacher "travel experience."

Gage will get $3,500 to go to Australia, where he'll study aboriginal art and culture. Specifically, St. Vrain officials said, Gage will research the nomadic Bidjara tribe, musical instruments and art as it is used to communicate, tell stories, make maps and for personal iconography. He'll also visit the Outback and the Great Barrier Reef.

His experiences, according to the district, will strengthen his ability to more fully integrate his passion for art with music, science and social studies.
