25 years of artistic vision

Leading the way is Melbourne painter Judy Holding, who first came to the Territory as a newlywed in the late '70s. She set up camp and woke up to find out she was at Ubirr, one of the country's finest Aboriginal rock-art sites. It blew her mind.

So, after many trips back, it's little wonder her work shows distinct influences from Aboriginal art - both contemporary and traditional.

"I don't think you can be an Australian landscape painter and not be influenced (by it)," she said. "I wouldn't be interested in just copying. But, having said that, it's a sensitive journey.

"I find it inspirational, the layer upon layer, and the more you look at it the more you see."
