Painting the wavesArt on cruise ships is becoming increasingly popular on cruise ships, with some vessels in the Pacific set to see an influx of art from Australian artists.

Carnival Cruises, the parent company of P&O Cruises, has said that it is to install an art gallery on its new ship, the Pacific Dawn, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

According to the paper Carnival Cruises is one of the biggest art sellers in the world and the move to introduce the new gallery will see more art be offered, with Aboriginal art also being put on show.

Commenting on the move, the chief executive of Carnival Australia Ann Sherry said that there was little Australian art currently available, but the introduction of the new gallery onto the Pacific Dawn would help to improve the situation.

The option to purchase some original works, often at prices cheaper than in galleries, may appear to those on luxury cruises.

But Pacific Dawn is not he only ship to offer art on board. Cunard Cruises new vessel Queen Victoria will contain over 500 new works in its collection.
