Warlukurlangu Artists - Australia

Australian Aboriginal art is the oldest living art tradition in the world, done by Australian Aborigines, with paintings in rock shelters dating back 20,000 years as well as contemporary art by Aborigines based on traditional culture. Art is one of the key rituals of Aboriginal culture and is used to mark territory and record history.

The exhibition will feature aboriginal art from Warlukurlangu artists aboriginal association (WAAA) in Yuendumu, Australia.

The Yuendumu community is in the Tanami Dessert, four hours drive and about 300 km north-west from the nearest rural township, Alice Springs, and thousands of kilometers from the art markets of Sydney, New York, London and Amsterdam. Yet, this remoteness has helped Warlpiri maintain their strong language and social and spiritual traditions, which are the inspiration for the wonderful, artistic expression of the association's older artists.
