Sarah Smiles from The Age talks about the plans to document the Canning Stock Route.
Quoted from the article:
"Apart from the Silk Road, it is probably one of the biggest landscapes in the world … It's quite phenomenal," said archaeologist Peter Veth, deputy-director of ANU's National Centre for Indigenous Studies, of the art.
Much of the art is found in ranges and valleys where ritual ceremonies would have been held. The painted art is thought to be produced by humans while the rock engravings "represents images left by ancestor beings", said Dr Veth, one of the project's lead researchers. The images of humans and tribal head-dresses are revealing clues to researchers about tribes' distinct identities.
