Claims Aboriginal art being traded for grog

Aboriginal Art Directory | 15.11.09

The Northern Territory Licensing Commission says it is concerned by claims that Aboriginal people are swapping art for alcohol in Alice Springs.

The commission is investigating claims an Alice Springs bottleshop accepted an Aboriginal bush tucker painting as payment for a carton of beer and a bottle of wine.

The commission's Chris McIntyre says alcohol must be paid for with legal tender and accepting art as payment is illegal.
