Aboriginal artists paint Wii gaming consoles

Nintendo has approached DACOU (Dreaming Art Centre of Utopia) to commission their artists to paint on 8 of the latest Wii gaming consoles.

These consoles will be auctioned off at 'Walking Together to Aid Aboriginal Health', Shalom Gamarada Aboriginal Art Exhibition, held at the University of NSW, 27 June – 4 Jul.

All proceeds fund residential scholarships for aboriginal medical students.

The DACOU artists chosen were Barbara Weir, Gloria Petyarre, Emily Pwerle & Galya Pwerle (Minnie Pwerle’s sisters). DACOU has supported ‘Walking Together to Aid Aboriginal Health’ for 7 years by supplying Utopia pieces as well as consistently donating paintings to the charity auction.

DACOU and its artists have been commissioned to paint many unusual items over the years. A few examples are an Apple computer painted by Emily Kngwarreye, double doors to a mansion in Sydney painted by Barbara Weir, and a 4 wheel drive vehicle painted by Minnie Pwerle.
