Helping local Aboriginal artists find their feet

Aboriginal Art Directory | 29.09.10

Cowra resident Ted Budd has been appointed as the new Central West Aboriginal Arts Development Officer (CWAADO) for Arts OutWest, a role that will see him help develop the commercial opportunities of local Aboriginal artists.
Mr Budd, of Wiradjuri heritage, previously worked as an in-class tutor at Cowra High School and also worked at an aboriginal employment agency.

Mr Budd’s role as a CWAADO will focus on developing commercial opportunities for Aboriginals in the arts industry.

There are 12 shires in Mr Budd’s area, going as far as Lithgow in the east and Condobolin in the west.

Mr Budd said he is looking forward to travelling around the region and seeing what the best Aboriginal talent has to offer.

“My role will be about finding regional artists and giving them recognition for their work,” Mr Budd said.

He says he hopes to have Aboriginal art works from regional artists displayed at galleries in Cowra, Bathurst and Orange and says there is a possibility that a major arts exhibition will be held in Sydney - providing plenty of exposure for the featured artists.
