The Environmental Defenders Office of the Northern Territory (EDO NT) is again holding an online Aboriginal art auction to raise funds for its important work (advising and acting for individuals, traditional owners, community groups and conservation groups seeking to protect the environment in the public interest).

There's some beautiful art on offer by artists including Dhuwarrwarr Marika, JB Fisher, Andrew Marrkula and Susan Wangi Wangi - whose work, Bombing of Darwin, was inspired by her father's experience during 1942.

Susan says, “After the first bombing, the men thought of making songs and dance about the bombing and the planes. This painting is about that. One old man singing, while men, women and kids dance around. Some people when the bombing started were standing around or hunting with their spears when the bombing started they were throwing their spears to the plane and hiding to try to keep safe.”

This story and the profiles (and artworks) of Dhuwarrwarr Marika, JB Fisher and Andrew Marrkula have been published by EDO NT.
